Inviting vs. Announcing

Inviting versus Announcing—which do you do at your parties? Imagine your neighbor calling you on the phone on a cold snowy day. She tells you she has just baked the best chocolate chip cookies ever. She is going on and on about the cookies and tells you they just melt in your mouth. You are thinking they sound so good but you do not have any chocolate chips in the house and you can not even get your car out of the driveway. You hang up the phone and a few hours later you are out shoveling when your neighbor comes out of her house. She says to you, “I can’t believe how hard I tried to sell you on coming over and having some of my special chocolate chip cookies and you just didn’t even want to come over and try them.” I believe you would want to say, “I wished you had just invited me because I was thinking I wished I could have some fresh baked cookies on a day like today.” Think about other times in your life when someone has been sharing something with you, never really came out and invited you to partake and you thought well that sounds nice, wish I could do that too. They may have been hoping you would have asked, “what about me too?”

I believe that we would always rather be included than ever have the feeling of once being excluded. I believe I teach is painting pictures with words. I want to share the invitation I used for years to be sure everyone at my parties always felt included in an invitation to join me in starting a business.

The invitation is also below. I want to encourage you to say these words to help others see how they too can benefit from their own business in their own life situation.

“Tonight, I want to invite each and every one of you to think about joining me in starting a home-based business. If you are a busy parent and are thinking, why would I want to add a business to my already crazy hectic life, would you enjoy having a business that you could do right alongside your family and other activities and add income to the family budget at the same time? I know some of you work full time and are thinking why would I want to add a business to my life? Would you enjoy getting to make the decisions after having worked all day for someone who did that for you? Would you enjoy knowing you have some choices for the future? I know some of you are retired or approaching retirement and are thinking, why would I want a business after working all these years? Would you like to have a business where you would have plenty of time to do all those things you have been waiting to do, extra money to help you do them and still continue to grow personally and professionally. I know some of you are just becoming familiar with our products tonight and I am so glad you are here. I do believe that this business can fit into anyone’s lifestyle and I do hope you will all think about joining me. Now for the reason you are here, let’s talk about our products.”

to listen to a “Big Mac” (morning after) call:

The next day start your customer service relationship. Call everyone who attended the party and say, “One of the focuses in my business is customer service. I would love to ask you a few questions to see how I can be of help to you in the future. Are you interruptible? You heard me talk about how this business can fit into anyone’s lifestyle. Have you ever given any thought to doing something like I am doing? What has your experience been with home parties? One of my goals is to be able to help you have access to our products when you would like to be able to purchase additional items for yourself or as gifts. Have you ever wished that you had a personal shopper? Would you like to hear about our sales? Another focus of mine is to reach more families than I have in the past. Can you think of someone I could call just to check and see if they are familiar with us or would know how to find us?” Then be sure to appreciate their time.

The first time someone says no on your telephone call, just say, “Thanks so much for being honest with me. I am so glad you felt you could be.” Then ask the next question. Please keep in mind that your customer service call is not to get a result. It is to show that you care. Showing that you care can often lead to results.
